Tru-Stone + CA?

I've not coated a finished trustone pen blank with CA, but I'd like to do it to make the piece less prone to chipping and give it a very high shine in the case of some of the varieties (they don't polish well due to their hardness).

I haven't had any problems getting a good shine to my tru-stone and I think CA would be more prone to chipping than the stone itself. Although I've only done a couple tru-stone pens so take that for what it's worth. After buffing with white diamond, I buff it out one more time with Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover. That really brings out the shine on my tru-stone pens.

Not really; If you do a good job with the wet sanding and wet micromesh and sand length wise on all grits, a good plastic polish and wax is all that is needed.

Tru stone is an Acrylic and needs no finish other then a good polish . I have done allot of tru stone pens and have yet to find one that didn't polish up to a good high shine . I do buff all my pens with buffing wheels and at least white diamond . I have buffing wheels dedicated to only tru stone due to the fact that the tru stone will dirty the wheel , the veining is some type of metal , most likely brass , and the darker colors will turn a new buff black in a very short time .

I had one Tru-stone blank (Arizona Jade Gemstone) on which I couldn't maintain a shine after buffing. I applied CA just to get a nice gloss and holding up so far (about 9 months).

Trustone cracks and chips easily. If dropped on a hard surface it is likely to crack. CA finish is more flexible and protects the trustone. It is not needed for a nice finish but I think it will extend the life of the pen.

I have used at least a dozen varieties of Tru-stone. All have looked fine with no finish, just buff and wax...except Imperial Jade. This one will not yield a nice shine for me. This one gets the CA finish. Just got some Az Jade. Post #6 says it also will need CA.
