Now that is really nice. I've sat and looked at that pen and I can think of a way to do that (like spiral candle holder) but no way to make it that precise. Must be laser.

Here is another snapshot that shows the helical segments. I cut them on my laser engraver. I've wanted to laser-cut blanks for months now, and finally got around to it. I have several other designs in mind, but felt I should start with something simple.

It's one thing to make that pen. But to call it simple??

Actually, the cut pattern is quite simple. It's just a series of diagonal lines. Getting them to connect seamlessly (and repeatably) took some practice. There are still a few process changes I need to make before moving on to more complex cuts.
