Nice. I have a leftover rod grip that needs turning. I built custom fishing rods for seven years. I never used a turning tool in those seven years. Sandpaper will do the job and will not have a catch. Like wood, start with a coarse grit and work down as the blank begins to shape. Some of the rod building suppliers have a coating to keep the grip from getting cruddy.
