My first attempt at a water slide decal pen. I'm not showing the pen so much, as I think everyone knows what a Cigar looks like.
I think this technique gives me an economical way of personalizing pens. I'm not at the label casting stage yet, both skill and financially.
I used clear labels here on maple. Lower tube is a figured teak blank (cutoff) that I had.
After sanding to 500, I applied 4 coats of thin CA, micromeshed smooth, applied decal (dry overnight), applied 2 coats of thin, followed by 4 coats of medium. At this point, edges of decal had disappeared. I then micromeshed as normal.
I also prepped the decal after printing with 2 coats of clear rustoleum 2x clear.
This was fun!
