This is my first one of these. I bought a treen mandrel set from Beall Tools specifically for this type of small box. The mandrel lets you turn to rather thin sidewall. The stopper has a cork seal and opens with a "pop". This is definitely a fun project, but I'm not sure of a practical use for them. My wife says seeing needles of toothpicks, something like that.

Whatever you decide to use it for, it's beautiful. The walnut grain looks great in that satin finish.
It's small 1.5 ID, about 3 inch's deep and 5 inches tall. So not much candy would fit.

It's a cork strip glued into a groove. Beall's have a 3 part video on their instruction page on how to make these, using their mandrel.
