I received a set of Henry Taylor pen turning tools from Craft Supplies, and went to sharpen them on the Tormek TNT-708.

They are too small - i.e. shafts not long enough to set on the tool setter!

I guess it could be me, but the spindle gouge and skew are too short to set properly.

Guess I have to return them and get the "standard" bowl turning set.

Anybody else seen this problem?

blessing in disguise

You're better off with full-size tools, in any case. You'll get more control with longer shafts and handles, and double duty from the tools when you want to turn something larger than a pen.

You won't need a bowl-gouge right away; you might just get a roughing gouge, a spindle gouge and a skew, and forego the set.

Just ordered a full size roughing gouge, spindle gouge and skew today. Hope to have them to do something this weekend. Chomping at the bit.
