Has anyone purchased from ToolKing.com? They have the Steel City VS mini lathe for 249.00 plus 8 bucks shipping on anything under 150 lbs. It sounds too good to be true, and that worries me.

Plus right now they have 90 days same as cash with paypal buyer credit which I already have, plus a couple bucks stashed away in my paypal account for Ebay emergencies.

So all in all it would be cheaper than purchasing it from Woodcraft after the taxes and such. I'm just worried that I'll get taken for a ride, but feel a little better buying through paypal with buyer protections that they have in place.

Woodcraft has them for the same price, so that sounds about right. I bought my wilton from them a few years back, and felt the same about the shipping as you, but it came as expected. I'd trust them again if it were me.

FYI, as I was recently debating between the Rikon and the SC, I found that the SC is currently at that price until the end of the year. I checked out toolking and wondered myself, but anywhere around you that sells SC should have it for that price right now, since it is a manufacturer deal, not a specific vendor promo.

It's not the price I'm worried about. It's the 8 bucks shipping for an almost 100 lb item. It may be their gimmick and then they hit you with $70 bucks in "handling" charges. That's all I'm worried about. The lathe itself carries a 5 year MF warranty so that's good. Just never dealt with toolking.com before.

Check out the SC web site , they have a rebate program going on till Dec . See if the lathe your looking at offers one.

I understand your concern, but the Rikon I got from woodcraft last week was on sale for 300 with free shipping. IIRC, the shipping still would have only been like 13 bucks or something, as they base on order amount, not size. Unless, of course, it is a heavy item over 100lbs. Food for thought......

Dont know anything about SC lathes but I bought a PC belt sander and a couple of other tools from Tool King and had no problems with shipping chgs or otherwise, they have always been just as advertised.

I bought one from them about 2-3 months ago... 'Cept it was free shipping.

The only issue I had with the purchase was the shipping time... It took 2 full weeks to get to me (but since it was free shipping, it didn't bother me that much).

I like it. It's quiet, smooth, and has a 2 gear pulley, rather than 3 or more like the Jet. The switch went bad on me a couple of weeks ago, but SC sent me out one for free, and it was easy to replace.

For the price, you can't go wrong.

Thanks! I'm sure it probably drop ships from the manufacturer. I'm still in negotations with the CFO to see if she'll allow it. I'm sure i'll end up buying her something.
