Trying my hand at snowman turning. What tool would make tighter snow balls(head/body)?

This was my first try at an ornament. Its from a broken walnut branch dehydrated, rough turned, and sat for a week. Spheres are not as easy as it looks.

I would use a skew to make V cuts between the head and body. Then use a spindle gouge to round them.
I do not have a gouge yet. Is that what you use on those ornaments you recently posted? Not the finale but the body part.

I gravitated to the Sorby Fingernail Gouge. Both for the body and the finial. An easy learning curve on 2x2" pine stock was an excellent time spent. I was able to turn finials and birdhouses with good tool control.

As ken mentioned above, a spindle gouge is equally fine.
