I don't remember if it was on here or someplace else, but I watched a fun contest and the wood of choice was pine LOL I was surprised at some of the beautiful wood that was shared. I have done some lures and the grain pattern was so nice, I was asked to just use a clear finish so they could be placed in a display box.
 
Maybe show her a few other choices. She may like. Start with John U's on the front page.
That was very funny, pine is good.
 
You can laugh ..... but pine (with some very interesting figuring) is not the worse thing in the world. I have seen some nice pens made with pine. Hope to make a few myself in the future.

It's a good chance that it was the pine pith from a few years ago in which I feel I represented quite well. I still hear people talk of the roasted pine pen. But more importantly it is a piece from a table that her grampa built that has since been damaged.
