This is Japanese Nikko black ebonite. I had very little smell from it to. Only if you do a cardinal sin while working it will it smell. Over heat the drill bit, allow the sandpaper to clog up, allow the chisel to burnish and not cut, use dull chisels, etc. I cut, drill and trim on the chuck with a flat skew.
This one started off to be something else. I screwed up the threading big time on the top of the cap so instead of tossing it I decided to put it on a kit. I had a gent jr that I removed the end cap via hammer and punch so a replacement was turned on the lathe then glued into place.
My shavings.
OH yea this stuff also collects lint like crazy and glares just as bad and it is not easy to shoot.
And NO I am not happy with the way it turned out.
