I would be worried about adhesion between the tubes and the blanks. I looked up titebond 2 and do not see where it is recommended for metal to wood connections. If it were me, I would try to push the tubes out now and clean out as much as possible and reglue with some thick CA.. but that is just me
I think you are going to need more than 2 days to get a water based glue to get setup with little for movement of moisture through the wood -- Brass just does not pass moisture out of the joint. Might take a while -- longer than a couple of days. When I do a massive glueup with boards, I give it a week or two and often find the glue towards the inside is not set.
Faster cure time is one of the reasons that other glues are more common. My guess is that the glue will be set near the ends in a couple of days with titebond.
Might want to pull the tubes loose and try again with a different glue.
I will try and loosen the tube in one blank this morning to see how well or not so well it set up. There is not a lot of thickness in the wood covering the brass tube so the glue may set up faster. Baking in a toaster oven is not a bad idea. I usually lay the completed blanks out in the sunshine out of the wind to cure. They get mighty toasty.
Not sure about Titebond II, but heat causes regular wood glue to loosen up, so be careful with the toaster oven if you go that route. If I were you I would go the epoxy or CA route. Wood glue does not make a good bond to metal and will not fill gaps. Both minuses as far as gluing tubes in blanks.
Ok, after 14 hours I tried to take the brass tube that was glued with titebond II out and no such luck. I also tried to take a brass tube that was glued with CA and no luck. So far it's a go.
I trimmed to length and cut the corners off. Tomorrow I may try and turn.
It has been a couple of days so I turned the blanks down as far as I dared and I got to aprox 3/64 and the titebond is still holding. I take any more wood and it will be part brass and wood. To compare to CA I need to take it down also, I am impressed. I took pictures but my computer is going on the blink. I will be back on in a couple of days.
