ok guys it has become time to upgrade the old 1014. as the orders come in i find myself more aggrivated changing the belt location on the pulleys time after time. not to mention i want to start turning some larger items such as platters and bowls. so i am looking for suggestions and recommendations on what lathe to purchase. i have been very pleased with the Jet products as the 1014 has lasted me thru thick and thin over 10 years of hard turning without even changing the original belt but am open to other manufacturers.
thanks

I would recommend the relatively new Delta 12 inch with the 1 HP VARIABLE SPEED MOTOR.

And for this excellent lathe recommendation, I'd like to "call first dibbs" on purchasing your 1014.

The delta is on sale at woodcraft --- Have turned on that lathe and it is a goodone'

The Powermatic 3520B is a bit better as is the Robust and Stubby -- but the price tag is a bit more.

Unless you wanted to just trash the 1014, have you considered adding the variable speed box and do away with changing belts all the time?

I didn't last but a month before I realized changing speeds via pully belts wasn't for me and added the variable speed motor on mine. If memory serves, I got it at Penn State.

I was in the same boat as you back in November. I had considered adding the vs unit from PSI, but instead put an add on Craigslist for my Jet and was able to sell it for what I had paid for it a year before (used) $260. I then purchased the Delta and it has been well worth it IMO!

as far as budget i would like to keep it under 1500 and no lol the 1014 will not see the light of day from my shop just moved over a little bit but thanks for the offer
