I meant you could turn down the part of the center band that you can see when the pen is capped, keeping the threaded part. This way you see only wood when the cap is on.

But ..... if you remove that metal, you will destroy the continuity of the plating .....

..... unless you lengthen the barrel a little bit to cover the area of metal removal.

Hmmmm .....

To do a screw fit on a kitless pen is expensive and difficult. It would be handy to be able to buy separate the cap screw and pen screw to fit into pen

How about using the female plastic cap thread (that comes with the kit) by making a hole large enough so that it fits snugly into the cap? WoopsI see that was suggested already. Sorry.
