With each of my children I plan on making a piece of furniture that I hope will stay in the family. This is son #2's bedside table. I made it a year ago but it is now leaving the house. He is in his final year of a three year program to become a physical therapist and he is taking the bedside table to his new place. Son #1 has got a desk but it still sits in the house waiting for him to finish school. Son #3 doesn't have anything quite yet. A future project. The bedside table is curly maple front and the rest is cherry. A new life for what I hope becomes hierloom begins.

This looks like a very nice piece, and likely to be appreciated both now and in future years. You made it from woods that are among my favorites for furniture work, and they look nice together.

I have noticed that interest in woodworking seems to run in families, just like hair color, height, and skin tone. Do you observe this genetic disposition in your family?:)
