Very nice. Would you mind showing a picture of the lathe you are using to make the lid insert? Is it an ornamental lathe you bought or made. Or have you rigged up another way to make it?

Yes, I was going to ask if you used a Rose Engine lathe.
Also, interesting with the birch/ebony box.... is there a birch insert in the ebony or is the ebony a sleeve over the birch ?

Sorry for the late reply.
The body is a Philippine ebony pipe resting on a Karelia birch base and the interior is a pot of ceylon lemon tree which protrudes and receives the thread .
The lathe is a Vicmarc VL 300 on the bench of which is adapted a cross table equipped with a portable Kress milling machine .
