Hi fellas, I made this rectangular platter from a large branch that decided to fall of the Thorny Locust in my front yard last summer. It is twice turned, with a lacquer finish. After the dust settled, and the lacquer dry,it was glossy but a bit fuzzy.Took care of that with a little wool n wax,and was left with a satin finish.Finished it of with a bit of ren wax to bring out a semi gloss look. The grain structure is amazing, highly contrasted, and very tactile.
I'm not sure what the lacquer did to bring out the grain,It was very smooth after sanding. You couldn't feel the rings before, after 4 coats of rattle can lacquer there's got to me a good 1mm depth change from ring to ring.Very cool sensation to run your fingers across.
Thanks for lookin.
