I should "temper" my request for advice.. I have everything to learn.
As of now, still in its box, is a Calif. Air pressure pot. The 2.5 gallon model.
and well, actually the only "requirements" size wise are 1.5" square or somewhere about 1.25 round.
So, can I just use the pressure pot for Stabilization of typical punk wood.
For certain, I have so very much over extended my budget... way over.
There is so much Info here! And I am "blown away" by the ART and skills seen here. I had no clue!
Have been copying quite a few posts to a Notebook document !!
I would hate for anyone to spend much time at the keyboard trying to help!
Should admit.. that I am not particularly skilled at modding/retrofitting, etc. which is why I went with the Cali Air versus HF. LOL!

I see you are fairly new to the forum.
First off, you should introduce yourself and define what it is you are intending to do!
A vacuum pump is for removing residual air from something generally for stabilizing. A pressure pot is used for putting items under pressure not vacuum. Vacuum will create bubbles and bubbles have a tendency to seize up vacuum pumps if you dont see them before they get in the tubing. That is why vacuum chambers used for stabilizing have some method for seeing what is going on in the chamber.

Currently my turning is Game calls. well, actually that was some years ago.
Have made hundreds of them! but always typical Wood species.
I have been watching a lot of ytube videos. I get the impression that a Vacuum setup is not 100% required.
funny how I am completely unprepared to turn Pens.
I will probably be a bit of a pain.. trying to assimilate so much info !

While the pressure pot could be used for vacuum I wouldn't recommend it for stabilizing wood as it requires visual monitoring. At first the fluid has a tendency to foam. Later you need to see when the bubbles have stopped coming out of the wood.
As to the pump, I am on my third (one was robin air). Buy once cry once. Get the one recommended by Cactus juice.

Don't waste your time with 1 stage pump
Get yourself a 2 stage and do it right the first time

Ok thank you. I was mostly just poking around on Marketplace... A dangerous thing to do!
As a newb with a Pressure pot ready, that will be the course for quite a while.

Nothing wrong with puttering around on FBMP, that is where I found my vacuum pump.
Be patient and look for a good one. Watch for a JB Industries unit. These are the industry standard. All the AC Pros use these. They last for ever and can be rebuilt. The import machines are mostly junk and non serviceable.
A quick look on FBMP in my area yielded this listing. The two "Platinum" units are model DV-200N. This is the unit that I have. The JB Platinum DV-200N is a commercial pump that is made to be left running for DAYS to evacuate the refrigerant from large commercial air handling units. They retail for around $800 new and can be had for $600 new if you look around. I see them on FBMP all the time in the $200-$300 price range. This listing, at $100, is a rockin' deal. I know that it isn't in your neck of the woods, but as I noted above, just be patient and you will find one.
