It has to be mentioned........
that we bought an old house, built in 1960. We doubled the size and upgraded plumbing, electrical, a/c, heating. This year the main water line into the house started producing leaks. I had been under the house five times repairing little leaks and even left a "leak trench" that would fill with water when a leak appeared. This morning I was going out to the garage to help Mary with a art tent when I decided to check my "leak trench" and sure enough, there was water in it.

Told Mary I needed to fix this leak and she said she could finish what she had started with the tent. After crawling under the house, through the mud I found the spot. I had shut the water off and called for Mary to start the water so I could see for sure where the water was coming from. That being done the water meter reader drove across our lawn, as he is accustomed because our neighbors dog likes to bite meter readers. Mary asked him to talk to me because I had said we should abandon the line and hook up to the 3/4" line stubbed out by the plumber for this reason. I had put it off because of needing to dig a trench through clay. If the clay was wet it was like glue and if it is dry it is like a rock. Anyway he said the old poly lines would not last long and I should replace the line with new sch 40 pipe. Before I knew what was happening (blame it on the meds) he had: shovel, machete, valves, glue, parts and started digging. We had forty feet of schedule 40 PVC that was intended for a water line from the meter to the garage. I joined in with the effort, and from 10:30 to 2:00 we worked until that new line was hooked up. Now we have: new 3/4" line, stub for line to the garage (avoiding the tree roots I had originally needed to go through), water bib near the house instead near the meter (twenty foot steps closer) and better water pressure and no foreseeable leaks.
I tried to offer money and he would not take any and made us promise not to call his employer.
Who says the good Lord does not look out for us???? I cannot tell you how happy I am not to need to check that little "leak trench" and crawl through mud in dark places with who-knows-what hanging down from the floor joists. I gave (made him take) the best pen I had in my inventory as well as a new leather wallet. He refused to take money (we didn't have any) and had to make him accept a gift.
It pains me not to be able to tell you his name or the company he is employed.
A man never gets rewarded for tooting his own horn, but I sure as heck feel real good about tooting his horn for him.

Thats a great story, help appears from the stranges places sometimes. Hope your luck continues and Mary sells out at the Bayou....

You and I, brother. We need a boost and I feel it is coming. Heck, I need to pay for my entry into the Montgomery Farmers Market and need to go find vendors that have sold my pens for the money.

John,

That is certainly a Godsend. In these times of greed and me,me,me that is unheard of. That should qualify as the best RAK of the year.
