but from our friends in Georgia... I need a quick question or two answered...

My son has moved from Texas to Georgia and went down today to transfer his vehicle registration and titles to Georgia. The DMV office told him that he would have to pay a 6.5% title tax on the market value of his vehicles... he has 3 vehicles all relatively new vehicles and relatively high value vehicles... at that rate, it will cost him close to $10K in "title tax" fees... is this correct??

I got a nephew who works in DMV. It sounds like a differential of taxes on the value of the vehicles. If Georgia has a higher tax on vehicle sales than Texas does, the registration can be taxed on the difference. If Texas had a higher rate, there should be no additional fees, just a transfer of vehicle tags.

It wont be $10k but it will be $1200 to $1500 for all cars. Ad velorum is what it is called. Lived in Ga for 13 years and now in SC for 6. Basically the same thing here. I have a 2011 Ford F150 and my teax last month for 2013 was just over $600. 2009 Honda, aroung $350 or so. New 2013 for my wife recently......God help me as I dont know yet.

Want to buy any pens??? LOL
