Here is the latest addition to the collection. It may seam familiar to some as it's based on one of my earlier efforts in the collection which I have never put up for sale. Built around 3 glass tubes and aged in my usual way.

Congratulations Simon,
You have taken your Steampunk Pens, to yet another degree.
Beyond the scope of mere mortals, to the level of Jules Verne, and Dr Who.

This is Steampunk Functional Art, not only is the "Pen Out Of This World" with regard, to the Concept, Design, Functional Adornments, Attention, Finish and Patina.
But it is also exemplified by the beauty and attention you have applied to design and detail of your case.
With regard to your pens, there is really only One Question - What's Next.
I wait in Anticipation of again being Amazed.

Incredible Art Simon! The complexity and imagination that goes into your work is amazing! Very cool.

I just received 1 mm threaded rods and nuts . Now I have to get a magnifying glass to see them! These pens really need to be seen in person to appreciate how complex these fittings are to work with in miniature.

Now I do appreciate your work more! :wink:

I am intrigued, what are you using those for then?

Saying that 1mm is massive compared to what I have used in my other hobby.

I am entered in the September Steampunk exchange and I'm trying to use them for that. So far I'm trying to turn 4 aluminum rings to circle a pen tube (2 beveled on the ends, 2 spaced in the between), do a foil cover for the tube, and have 3-5 rods and nuts going through the 2 rings in the center, spaced about 1"

I got the aluminum turned fine,I think it is 2.5 MM thick sheeting, but they are 2.5 mm from ID to OD, and drilling a 1mm hole with my equipment is a challenge. As I broke one drill bit, then drilled the hole through the side of one of the rings, my son learned a few new words.

But I'm having fun.

Oh, and when the blank is done I will cast it in Alumilite... So I'd better make 2-3 blanks to be sure I get one right !

Mark, I've found drilling at those sizes you are best doing it by hand. Every machine/drill press/drill I tried even on its lowest setting is way too aggressive.

I also break my fine drills to shorten them so that it can go further into the chuck which eliminates the drill flex which in turn reduces breakages. I use drills right down to 0.3mm and drill by hand with a pin vice.

I have repeatably and successfully drilled by hand a 0.5mm holes down the centre of a 1mm aluminium rod to a depth of 10mm, you just have to take it really slow.

Jules Verne like!

Geezo-Peezo, Holy Moley Simon! This has Jules Verne written all over it! Once again, beautiful work. You're an inspiration.

I'm gonna have to go rent "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" for my Labor Day Weekend viewing pleasure and see if I can get some inspiration for this months Steampunk PITH!

The filler is just a standard twist filler that I added the embellishments too, it works in the standard way. As regards number of hours, it's difficult to say. I made this over the course of 4 or 5 days, maybe 4 or 5 hours a day. There is a lot of stop starting. I don't have a fixed design when I start, just a basic idea so many parts get made and rejected, pauses occure while it is being pickled between brazing steps etc. I had intended for this pen to have considerably more tubes, pipes and fittings but in the end less was actually more in this case.

I assume it would be addressed to A Skip in Wales. Unfortunately it's on it's way across the pond, might even be passing over your head as we speak and I didn't fit it with a parachute.
