I have lived all of my life in this area (on the Ohio River, roughly halfway between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati) and I have never seen such a sustained period of cold. Sure, our local ponds always freeze every year and occasionally a little bit of ice will form along the edges of the Ohio River and in the backwater areas. However, the Big O is now completely frozen - over two inches thick. Barge traffic has finally broken the ice into large chunks.
