I have worked on and around boats for 4 years. The season just doesn't feel right until I hear the following statememts:

"My wife was driving the boat and......"
"You are ruining our vacation!"

Since we are not fixing boats anymore I did not expect to hear these but Wednesday I ruined someone's vacation because we don't work on boats any more.

Tuesday I got the "My wife was driving" statement.

I wonder if car mechanics hear this stuff.

Being a long time in the boat industry, I always knew spring had arrived when I heard

"What exactly does winterize the engine mean" :)

If it's fun with a motor you hear them! Hell I used to hear "your ruining my vacation" as a fishing guide! Apparently I have the mystical power to call up a salmon run with the wave of my hand and give mere mortals the ability to cast with devine power!.............Who spends thousands on a Alaskan fly fishing trip and doesn't work on there cast? Why millions of people do!

I have to fix the lower unit on my frieghter canoe but we are going to get her wet soon. For me the first day of boating starts with a splash! My kid has a bad habit of dropping gear into the river!!!!!!

I like to hang out at the boat launch on Memorial weekend.
It's better than any comedy on TV!

On the lakes here, we call it "The official start of dumba$$ season".

A few years back, we had a new boater back into the launch, unhook boat, motor AND trailer from the vehicle and the drive away in the boat, still strapped to the trailer!

One guy at the launch commented that it would take a fancy piece of boat driving to maneuver the trailer tongue BACK ON THAT 2 INCH BALL! Of course, we all HAD to get a 6 pack and await his return:)

Hunting 1000 pound bears with two sticks and a string? No problem.........Launching a boat from a public dock memorial day weekend? Are you nuts! You sir are 100% right! Best people watching of the year!!!!

I guess when we lived in upstate New York our family was the dumb ones. 4th of July weekend we would dress up like clowns, do the clown makeup, and go water skiing. Living in VA now that is not that big of a deal, but Upstate NY.... It took 3 days for our lips to stop being blue!

I can relate to that. I have been going to the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY my whole life. I have water skied in May numerous times, usually wearing a wet suit!

LOL it's rarely above 60 on memorial day here.....average water temp about 45.......but all the beaches are full and every chick with something worth seeing is showin it off!

The last week or two of spring snowmobiling there is almost always a hottie sunning herself on the hood of her truck in the parking lot at the end of the run. The sun reflects off the snow and it can be in the 70's.......kinda like one of those solar ovens.

Around here it aint always worth seeing. Yes, there are women who should keep their tops ON and men who should NOT wear speedos.

Wetsuit when I was a kid in NY, ha that was like the kid that wore a helmet riding a bike!

Ya get to be my age and you wear them because they don't haul a gallon of water with you when you get out and you weigh 10 pounds less while walking --- to h*** with what you look like .... nobody cares anyway.

The unfortunately somewhat rare Beluga whale returns to the waters of cook inlet shortly after the ice breaks up. They follow schools of small fish called hoolagins or candle fish and can easily be seen feeding from shore.
