Since you liked my other video, I have one more...but no more after this one
My friend's mom had a rustic seat bottom from a pecan log chair that her father (my friend's grandfather) built in the 1900's...the mom says it may have even been late 1800's...she couldn't remember exactly). There's nothing left of the chair besides the seat bottom, and the mom really didn't know what to do with the wood since a lot of it was rotten (it was an outside chair). Well, my friend knows I make pens, so she asked me to make her mom a pen from the wood her grandfather used to make the chair. When making the pen, I wanted to capture as much as I could from the original wood...so I kept the bolt hole that was drilled into a spalted piece that wasn't too rotten. I also wanted to dress the pen up a little, so I used a piece of firewood the mom had and a piece of walnut I had. And by the way, the grandfather's favorite drink was Dr. Pepper...that'll make sense if you watch the video...
And this was the resulting pen...
