so I've seen on here and elsewhere in the past discussion on what is a "burl" and what is not.

was out shed hunting recently, and while I didn't find anything special, I did find a couple of nice chunks of what I would assume to be wild cherry burls.

Here are some pictures. I just didn't want to describe this wood as a "burl" if it isn't.
first pic is two of the 3 "burls" I picked up. I sawed these 2 tonight. they've obviously been sitting quite a while.

Here is a pic of a slice out of on of them, wiped down with linseed oil

and here is a pleasant surprise, this nice wood all tunneled out by carpenter ants.

That third one looks like a great candidate for some "worthless wood" casting... I've picked up several wild cherry trees around my area that have been home to carpenter ant colonies... makes for some interesting turnings.
 
It's kind of funny that we think....
