I'm sure I'm not alone - take on a project, spend hours planning, sourcing materials, and working, only to realize that, once again, I have violated that 'measure twice' rule and have to start over. Aarghhh!
A wise woodworker once told me, "You can always cut off, but you can't cut on."And remember, you can always cut it smaller, but wood stretchers are hard to come by.
I'm told one of my uncles made that statement. My problem today was laying out a piece of plywood and drilling 8 holes in it. OK. the first four went well but I placed the plywood on my workbench to line up the holes to mount it to the workbench. Clamped it and marked two holes. Somewhere along the line, it shifted and the one back hole didn't line up. So...I put the bolts into the front holes and snugged them down. Drilled again; one hole in the WB top is slightly oval but I got the results I was looking for. Mama said there would be days like this!"That's the 4th time I've cut it and it's still too short."
