Neighbors are great, especially when they know your hobbies

He found this big guy in the driveway (we both live on the same 100acre property) and took him out. Looks to be a Timber Rattlesnake. Instead of throwing him away he came over to the house to see if I wanted it for anything. YUP! This will be a first, and I haven't really done any snake skin castings but this outta be fun. Now I need to find some tanning guides for after I skin it. I haven't measured yet but I'll do that before I get started. Felt like sharing while I was reading up on Seamus's tutorial

All done! Everything went as well as possible. Man that sucker was FAT! Had a few mice in his belly. My wife helped out after I skinned it and it measured just at 59" and that was without the head so it was a good 5' long. Here's a couple pix.

Contact Don Ward (its virgil) for tanning instructions -- he will provide them by e-mail if you contact him.

Nice neighbor -- the two legged one --

Think big pens with that sized snake skin --

Might want to check and make sure it's not on the endangered species list. Could get into ALOT of trouble.

If it is a timber rattler I THINK those are on the list in Texas????

If not that's a nice skin you got there. Should turn out great.

Jonathon,

Did a snake skin case demo for our group today. The seam was great. Give me a call when you are free and ready to cast a blank.

Nice steal! You would have had to clean my shorts if I came across one of those that big! LOL!

Good thing I didn't find it in my driveway... you probably wouldn't have wanted the skin if I had... the smell probably wouldn't ever have come off and might even have bled through your casting.... I hate snakes in any and all forms...... never worry about them hurting me, but certainly will make me hurt myself.:highfive::highfive: congrats on the skin...

All I can say is.... you know you have a good wife when she helps to skin the rattlesnakes!

She is a keeper!
