I don't know if the rest of the country/world is aware that Texas is burning. We had 54 new wild fires just yesterday, and more today. If we have any members in the Bastrop, TX area please listen to the local authorities. There are multiple fires there and just 1 has burned over 25,000 acres and 500 homes. Take care of yourselves and if you need anything you know the IAP is here and many members can help IF you have a home to get back to.

I'm in south Austin in oak hill and the fire near the perdenales is about 10 miles from where we are. We almost lost our house with the last fire the burned through oak hill several months ago. It was literally n our neighborhood. There were several houses that burned down around the corner from us. We are keeping an eye on all of this.

To all in any fire zone, please do not risk your life for a few prized possessions. the only thing that can not be replaced is your and your families lives. When the fire departments request you to leave, they have a very good reason. If you are gone, they only have themselves to be concerned for. When you stay, that takes man power away from fighting the fires to care for you. When the word comes down, grab the cat, (a Lethal Weapon thing) and get out of Dodge. A retired volunteer fireman. Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it.
Our prayers are with each and everyone in the fire's path. May God bless you and care for you.

We wouldnt hesitate to evacuate. We had to last time, only we didnt even know there was a fire until it was a few blocks over. Our neighbor called us a said that the neighborhood was on fire. We were like what, opened the front door and the neighborhood was filled with smoke and there was ash falling from the sky. We grabbed the dogs and took off. Sat in a parking lot for 6 hours and watched our neighborhood burn, and planes and helicopters dropping water and retardant everywhere.

The one in Bastrop is over 25000 acres and over 460 homes burned so far. The one near the Perdenales in Spicewood is 10-15 miles from us and is in the thousands of acres and over 20 houses burned. Steiner ranch fire is 10-15 miles from us and is in the thousands of acres and is over 25 homes burned. One in Pflugervlle was several hundred acres and several homes were burned. One i n Cedar Park was several hundred acres and several homes were burned. There are several more. So far 36000 acres are gone. This is all within 40 miles of the city of Austin, some closer, and from us. We are all ears.

Hopefully it wont make it here again

Thanks for the concern

I don't know if it's commercially available yet, but someone invented a spray based on the absorbent stuff in diapers that basically fire-proofs a house. Interesting stuff. Wish I knew what he called it. I saw video of the stuff being applied, and it looks like anyone with opposible(?) thumbs can do it.

Never thought this would be a supportive thought but hope you get a tropical storm soon. Some weather guy said that you would need it to end this mess.

I live in Chattanooga and we just had 8 inches fall today. We needed the rain, but not that much. Just wish the majority of it had fallen in Texas where it is more desparately needed. Couldn't do anything outside today, so I made pens..

It just goes to show, that wherever you go, there you are.

Just called my son, who lives in Bastrop... his subdivision is currently okay... no danger there yet... most of the fires are across town closer to the park area... he did say they were under a mandatory evacuation order and he and his wife were packing the cars, dogs and getting ready to head into Austin proper to a friend's house.
