Hello!
Recently moved to DC but my hearts still in Texas! I stumbled across this forum as I am interested in the process of making blanks and the art behind it. I worked as a carpenter for one summer, mostly doing the grunt work of sanding tables, but had some sporadic opportunities to do some detail work which was very enjoyable.

Thanks,
Mr. Fish

Welcome. Maybe you can fix a few things while your there. There are several different ways to "Build Blanks" and I think all are discussed here in some degree or another.

Welcome from San Francisco, Anderson!

I was born in DC - some fabulous things to see and do - and I owe my modest artistic skills and creative curiosity to frequent trips to:
National Gallery of Art
National Portrait Gallery and the rest of the Smithsonian collection
National Archives to better understand the truly enduring documents of freedom
Library of Congress
Blues Alley
Chesapeake for blue crab fishing
Picking apples in nearby Virginia
(getting misty as I write this)

Take heart in DC - have big fun there and here!

- Bob

Welcome Anderson. Any wood working experience helps in the process of learning pen making. Still there are bumps in the road and we have a lot of road pavers here to smooth them out!
