Temperature - hot with chance of snake

First thing on arrival in the shop, I usually check the temperature... this is what I found this morning... can't imagine how he climbed the wall... the thermometer is mounted in the corner of a shelf that is mounted over the window behind my work bench...

he's cute, but he had to go... snakes give me the willies. He didn't appreciate me poking him and knocking him off his perch... I put him in the woods outside the shop so he could look for another place to hide... just hope he doesn't decide to come back down the hill and use my wood pile as a habitat...

I would have probably done the same as you... but I think I would have moved him a little further away to be SURE he didn't come back!!!

And yes, I agree his pattern would be pretty as pens, but I don't think I could do THAT all on my own. I've cleaned fish, etc but no thanks to dealing with snakeskin!

I don't do many pens anymore... and haven't figured out a way to use a snakeskin for a pepper mill... besides, snakes give me the willies, so not so sure I would want to turn anything in snake skin.

I've been a wuss over snakes since I was about 4 years old when I watched a 5 foot chicken snake (my dad's name for it... probably a bull or king snake) crawl out of a hen's nest and back into the barn, but just before he got through the logs, my dad pen his tail with a pitch fork and made my mother hold the end of the handle so he could get to the other end and grab the snake by the tail and crack him like a whip to snap its head off.... I had nightmares for years over that... kinda like post snake trauma. :biggrin:

Quickest and easiest way to kill a non venomous snake....actually the head usually doesn't come off the neck just gets broken.

They are right ofcourse.This one would make nice pens.But I'm like a lot of you. Thing is,willies dosn,t "begin" to say it.But I have been reading all your posts about snake skin pens.Also started liking the blanks so many show.I hate to feel ruled by my fears.So I have been playing mind games trying to over come it.I put my first skin in a pill bottle with tannig solution tonight.Hard as it wastohandle"even a skin.I keep callingit fabric in my mind.Moore Mind games,HA.

Brings to mind the scene in Indiana Jones and the Crystal skull... he's in a quick sand bog and his son and ex-girlfriend grab a python to pull him out... he hates snakes and won't touch it, they keep saying grab the snake... he says don't call it a snake... they say grab the rope.... :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Need bigger snakes.:eek:
 
Looks like a Gray Rat snake. They are harmless and will keep the rats and mice down around your place. I have kept a few over the years. Make great pets.:biggrin:
