So, I wanted to ask if anyone who makes rolling pins has ever discovered a way to make a bushing for turning down rolling pins.

The best idea I've come up with is a magnetic stand that attaches to my lathe bed with an adjustable point that I can set along side the spindle blank, and turn the blank until I'm about even with the pointer, but that seems too easy to knock out of place.

Is there any way to create a "bushing" or guide that can fit over my live center, or my spur center, and let me turn down the pin without flipping the pin? Something adjustable would be awesome.

Until then, I'm just turning down to a template that I cut out of plywood, that works ok and maybe that's the best solution, but I was wondering if anyone else has found a better solution to this.

I have made 3, the handles are attached. I use a block resting on the lathe rails also a Straight edge and a template.
All were gifts.

Sounds like you want a cutting guide. Check out the semaphore guide on this video. Those little arms on the jig behind the lathe.
It is hard to find any plans for a semaphore jig for a lathe, but an easy concept to design your own.

Wow, I've never seen that jig before, but a quick Google search gave several different examples.

This could work well for me, looks like I need to cut a pattern to set the fingers of the jig to before I insert my blank, and only apply fingers after my blank is turned round, so I need to keep that in mind for my design.

Thanks for showing me this!
