I am considering an mid to high quality SAE tap & die set. I just got an inexpensive and CHEAP one off ebay. What a worthless waste of metal. I tried using them, and they don't cut it, literally.

To complete my project, I ran out and bought an Irwin self centering tap, really nice. No comparison under magnification to the cheapies.

I have a Craftsman metric set. I have used maybe 3 or 4 sizes.

Any recommendations based on experience?

TIA, Carl

Go to Victor Machinery on the internet. They have all the taps and dies you will need for pen making. Fast and friendly service. Three or four sets will be all the sizes you will need for making pens. Jim S

Buy the individual taps and dies you need from Victornet.com (Victor Machinery). Not sure what you might be using them for but Victor is my recommendation.
