I was very clumsy and allowed my tail stock to fall off the lathe and hit the cement floor. It dulled the point in the live center and I think it also damaged the bearings inside the live center. Does anyone know if you can just buy the end of he live center or if you have to buy the shaft too. I have a jet mini lathe and so far have not found any good info. on the internet about replacing it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sure. Then your supposed to grumble as you google up a new manual when you need it.

Okay David .... now here's what you're gonna do immediately after repairing the tailstock . . . . screw/bolt a stop guard at the ends of the lathe bed. Know what I mean? ;)

If it is just the point that is damaged, you can get replacements from some Woodcraft stores. They run about $2.00. Jet will charge you about $1.68 for the same item; but will try to charge you their standard shipping fee which is $19.95!!! (First hand experience.):(:(

That being said, you probably need the LC from LMS anyway. The centering dimple on the end of your pen mandrel has a 60° angle. Using the stock LC that comes with the JET will, most likely, cause premature wear of the tip as it is only 30°.

Thanks for all the info. guys. I went to Wood Craft today and actually bought a set of live centers. Don't know yet what they are all for, but will eventually figure it out. I liked what the LMS had to offer but the set I bought was on sale for $15 off. Kind of a hard deal to pass up. Thanks again for the help.

David,
If you got the same set I did, mine was free since it became a birthday gift from son.. you'll find uses for the tips... I use at least 3 regularly.. the 60 deg is for the mandrel... works great... the little cup with a point I use in all my between center turning... there's one that is a cup that fits perfectly over the end of the all thread I built my buffing system on... still looking at the rest to see what I can use them for.. great thing is it's interchangeable between the mini and midi lathes
