I am looking at getting an actual table saw in the next few weeks. I am leaning towards Porter Cable PCB270TS. What others in that price range might be one to consider? What are the drawbacks of that one?

If you Google PCB270TS there is a lot of reading from owners of this saw. From what I read I think there are better options.

I keep watching Craig's List! My neighbor bought a 5 HP Unisaw for $500. I have yet to find that deal, but there have been some good values on good saws.

As Whaler suggests, look at the reviews from owners of the P/C saws. All of my Porter tools have been good, but owners of that saw don't speak very well of it.

I don't own one, but it seems to get great reviews.

15-Amp 10" Table Saw
  • One Step Caster Stand system for easy transportation
  • Conveniently located table top bevel scale for accurate angle settings
  • Front mounted handles for blade tilt and blade height adjustments
  • Up to 30" ripping capacity to right of blade
I don't see any reason not to own one. Good luck!

That looks like the one that was previously branded under the Hitachi name as Lowes. You may be able to find a used one cheaper if you're set on this particular saw.

I'd second Craigslist if you're interested in buying used. There are some great deals to be had if you keep an eye out. I saw a used 5hp Northfield Industrial saw go for $400 a few weeks ago, wish I'd been able to jump on that one, but my trailer can't handle an 1800lb saw!

I have looked at the dewalt, but I want the table type. The dewalt one I found was a bit higher than I am probably going to go.

Ed,

How much are you wanting to spend? I have seen a delta unisaw on craigs list, but I just checked and I could not find it. I will keep an eye out for you though.

The first reviews I saw on this saw we're awful. After investigating further, LumberJock users and some other reviews were pretty favorable for this saw.

I have been keeping an eye on craigslist, but have not seen anything I am looking for. It will either be after I close on the house or get taxes back.

If you can find a used Ryobi BT3000 or 3100 I'd highly recommend it. I've had one for years and it's treated me well. Very reasonable cost (read: cheap) and it has an almost cult-like following, for good reason: BT3Central. They pop up on craigslist and ebay from time to time. A good blade and a little TLC makes a reliable go-to tool to build a shop around, FWIW.
