table saw base

I want to build a new base for my el cheapo table saw. My concern is casters. I know I can find locking casters but I have reservations about the stability of the casters I have seen. Is there a source for the "kick down" type that allows the base to rest on the floor rather than relying on a locked caster? I don't see a caster offering much surface area to maintain stability.

Here is the base I made from a plan in Wood magazine. The angle on the bottom is where the casters are. Tilt the base up and the wheels hit the ground. Makes for a very stable base. Hope it helps.

Thanks Chief, that looks like an inexpensive solution. I have since found some at Woodcraft but they are not cheap.

casters are always expensive. even on ebay there is rarely any deals.

Buy the Woodcraft casters.... You won't regret it. I've used Horror Freight for several projects. They roll, but forget the locks. The Woodcraft locks both the wheel and the bearings so they won't move. I just put two swivel and two fixed on my 2x4 base for my TS.
Locks in position....And will move when I want it to. Or go with metal frame. I'm cheeep, but you get what you pay for.

I have the woodcraft base on a tool box and a HTC on my band saw. The HTC is really good, but the Woodcraft base is very difficult to make it rise. It I had it to do again I would not buy it. on my lathe and they are just fantastic. I have 4 swivel and they make it easy to move my lathe anywhere I want it to go. I would go with them since they work so well.

I am not a fan of Harbor Freight. Most of the stuff I have bought at HF is junk. BUT, they do have adequate casters at reasonable prices. Their locking casters actually lock and hold.
