I have a jet variable speed mini lathe & the switch is bad. Has anyone had this problem? And do you have to replace it with a factory part from Jet? Thanks Joe S.

Hi Joe - I had the same problem with my Rikon. The switch had quit working in the on position. I called Rikon and they shipped me a new switch - free of charge.
If you call Jet, maybe they will do the same.
To stop the problem from happening again, I have hooked up my lathe with a foot switch extension cord so I just leave the switch on the lathe in the on position.

I just replace the switch on my Jet VS mini. I went to the BORG and bought one for about $3 and replaced it myself. I spent the extra quarter to get the dust and moisture resistant switch so hopefully it will last longer than the original one.

Same as Jason, went to the borg and got a $4 switch and fit it in. Works like a charm and feels better than the original. I have read at least 10 people here that have had to replace their switch on their 1014VS.
It's super easy and any 120 volt unit will work. Good luck.

The Jet switch is a multi part switch and sometimes parts will slip... you might check to see if maybe the rocker has slipped... otherwise, agree with concensus.. a trip to BORG.

Hey folks pardon my ignorance but are you referring to Borg Warner in regards to where you bought your switches?
Our Jet 1014VS will sometimes sit in the the middle but still works. I would like to get a switch of better quality and have it handy when it finally wear out.

Mike, We call the big box stores the borg. Home Depot and Lowes.
Chuck, I did that and the rocker was out of place. Not the first time I had rebuilt a switch. In fact I did it to the switch in my first table saw. Cheap Crapsman. I did it on the jet mini and it worked for about five switches on and off. The plastic was too far gone. Off to the borg I went. It's always worth a try though.

Not to hijack this thread, however, an air compressor should be standard equipment in a dust making shop...
Dust collects everywhere. Light Switches, Outlet Boxes, Machine Switches, Motors, Fans, Inside Housings.
This Dust is that Nasty Fine Dust that is Smaller than.05 Micron, Your Normal Hair is Over 1.0 Micron... This is that fine Silky Dust that coats fyour clothes and Hair and settles on everything in the shop.
Protect your lungs when you use that compressor to clean it out of all the nooks and crannies where it gathers...
