I know you Northerner's don't know what i'm talking about. But how much sugar, splenda, or sweetener do you put in your tea? Also what kind of Tea do you use? Just thinking about trying something new.

I use Lipton Cold Brew. For 1 gallon I use 2 cups of sugar. Sometimes I use 1 cup of splenda. I also love sun tea, just don't have enough time to make it. I usually work from 5am to 5pm. I drink atleast 1 gallon from the time I get home from work until I go to bed around 10:00.

I might be a bit far north but that sounds awesome. I think I may be the only one in the town that agrees but so be it.

Umm a gallon? That can't be good for you. Yep, I'm a Northerner, don't get it. Geuss I gotta come for a visit. Coming to Northern Georgia in October, will it be there?

Pure tea, nothin but a little lemon added and the darker the better. Lipton of course.

Ernie, why don't you just drink a little dark Karo syrup?

Northern Georgia is only 8 hours away. You going for fun or what. You'll be driving right by my house:biggrin:

Here in Pennsylvania, this Northerner uses two and one-half cups of pure cane sugar in his sweet tea. I used either Lipton or Red Rose tea, about 14 bags per gallon.
As far as the sun tea, I love it as well. 12 hours away from home is more that enough time to brew so sun tea. I just set my jar out where it will get the most direct sunlight before I leave in the morning.

Ernie, my wife puts two cups in about a gallon also. Her mom grew up in South Carolina and I guess they do things different down there. She puts her tea bags in about two cups of water, adds a dash of baking soda, and boils it for about 5 minutes. Then she pours the brewed tea into a gallon pitcher and squeezes the tea bags into it. Then adds cold water to fill the pitcher and stirs in two cups of sugar. Why the baking soda? It takes the bite out of the tea and it seems to keep longer in the fridge.

2 cups of sugar?? Heck I think I used that much when I made KoolAid when they were the tiny packets.

I have had sweet tea...a little too sweet for my taste. I prefer sun tea and sun herbal teas, which I know, is not tea.

It must be a KY thing Dan. I use the cold brew and put 4 bags pers gallon, the family size ones. It says let set 5 minutes in cold water. I let it set 30 minutes. Then add the sugar and mix well.

I thought you all were drinking tea. Lipton is bitter and dry, gives me heartburn. There's nothing better than Luzianne sweet tea  Try it once and you won't go back. On a hot day a gallon doesn't last long.

Ernie, Susanne never lets me run out of tea. OK, here's her input. Lipton LOOSE tea, 6 tablespoons. Brewed with 7 cups of water in a dedicated coffee maker just for tea. Add 1 1/3 cups sugar, stir, top off pitcher with cold water. GOOD STUFF!!

Here in N GA we love our sweet tea !! About two cups per gallon is right. Depending on where you get it in restaurants it could be a little sweeter or could be not quite as sweet....but it will be sweet!!

We'll be flying over your house into Atlanta then up to Blue Ridge, GA. Anniversary with LOML. So Side trips would probably be frowned upon.

No sweet tooth here. I like my tea with no sugar, just a slice of lemon or lime. As for coffee, I take my Community Club Dark Roast black and strong enough to stand a spoon on end

Ok Ernie...I'll give up our family recipie for ya.

2 Bags of Luzianne family size tea bags.

Put them in the coffee filter holder of your standard coffee pot

Add 10-12 cups cold water & run through cycle (tea will be hot!)

Pour into your 1 gallon pitcher

Add 1 1/2cups sugar. Mix well.

Fill the pitcher with cold water &/or Ice

Sit back and enjoy!

I traveled the middle east for a few years and got to love the teas they had over there. I haven't touched any of the grocery store stuff since (Liptons Luizanne, etc). One variety in particular is my mainstay, it's Sadaf special blend, a nice fragrant blend and if you like SWEET tea, you're sure to like this. I order mine online at: http://sadaf.com/store/product604.html

If you want some very nice tasting tea that doesn't have to be drowned in sugar to be palatable, you might give it a try!

Another great tea is Shahrzad Blended and scented! A very aromatic and sweet tea. http://www.golchinproducts.com/products/shahrzad-blended-scented_746646810008

but how much did you add to the ZAREX? (only FAR NORTHERNERS will understand!)

My Wife doesn't like her tea sweet, so I brew a gallon of sun tea with 8 regular bags of Lipton. Then I have some nice 24oz tea glasses, and I use two packets of Equal in my glass. I'm diabetic, so this is the sweet I get.

Scott.

Lipton tea 2 cups of sugar per gallon and real cajuns dont drink coffee unless its chickery and if you put your spoon in that it will throw it at you

I use a coffee maker style tea maker. I place two large family size tea bags in it. I add water to the back that heats up and pours over the bags filling up a gallon jug. To this I add 2 cups of sugar. Some times I am lucky to get any before my kids drink it all.

We use the gallon size Lipton tea bags from Sams. 1 bag per gallon is really nice. I used to use 1 1/2 cups of sugar per gallon, but I'm trying to cut back. I now use 1/2 cup per gallon, and then mix 2/3 tea 1/3 cranberry apple juice. I boil the water, pour into the pitcher with the bag and sugar and let it set for 5-10 min. I then add cold water to keep it from bittering up the juice too much, then I pour in the juice. I love it even more than I loved sweet tea.

Coming from the south (Northern Georgia, near atlanta/gwinnett county), I'm SUPPOSED to like sweet tea, but I just can't drink it. In fact, my family has disowned me for liking unsweetened. I started drinking it in "quantities" about 18 months ago, and when I started, I had to add a little sugar - 1 tablespoon per half gallon - to "cut the bite" of the bitterness. (wish I had known about that baking soda trick then!) And now I don't even bother with the sugar.

About types of tea, I've been using Lipton 'cause that's what I can find in San Jose - but I'm not really a fan. And I'm REALLY not a fan of the Cold Brew. I had been buying it, again, because it's what I can find in the family size bags; but I really prefer the flavor of the traditional "boil water" tea - my brewing takes about 5-10 minutes for the boil method, or over an hour and still not really getting dark tea with the cold brew.

Now I think I'll be looking for that Sadaf tea. Great topic.

If the bitterness is a problem, have read to not squeeze the tea bag (not sure about this one) and to not brew over 3 minutes; using boiling water speeds the process. Shame that bitterness causes one to add sugar. I add sweetener to tea because I prefer a slightly sweet taste, but now use only artificial sweetener. Sugar excess at younger age can cause multiple health problems, but caution is needed in selecting a healthy substitute. Biggest problem I experience is finding tea that provides a stronger tea taste. I suspect that manufacturers process tea to remove some of the tea [taste] for other purposes, then sell as original stuff.

We're transplants to Louisville from Northern California and my wife uses 1 cup per quart. And it's good.
Love me some sweet tea.

You American chaps are a very strange bunch. Gallons of tea, good Lord!. Over here in Little Old Britain, it is a religion. 3pm in the afternoon, Old, rarely washed, brown teapot for brewing. I like mine in the military style. Dark Brown, 2 spoons of sugar and a little milk.

Biscuits (cookies) on the side brings you to a whole other religious debate. I prefer digestive.

You colonials do have your funny little ways :biggrin::biggrin:

(Prepares for incoming :beat-up::beat-up:)

:biggrin::biggrin: well that just totally brought back childhood memories. I believe if memories serves me right, I did the same 2 cups per 2 quarts as I did for kool aid...but I must admit it's been a while. Now I am going to go see if they still sell ZaRex, maybe buy some too :biggrin::biggrin:
