SWAT is about a month away - who's going?

I think an IAP member is giving a demo - Don Ward?

I know that MesquiteMan and El Mostro will be there selling stuff.

I will be there. I'm not doing a demo:mad: as I received the proverbial rejection letter.

I will be hosting (for the 5th year) a hands on penturning area. I will have 5 jet mini lathes, Easy Wood Tools tools, blanks for slimlines and sierras ready to turn, and all of the sanding and finishing materials needed. Kits are purchased from vendors. About 200 pens were made the last several times. The pens are kept by the makers just for the price of the kit. I have Afzelia and mesquite blanks. Come by and visit, make a pen, or give me a potty break:biggrin:. I have not had any volunteer help so far for this year.

Kallenshaanwoods (ken and Colin Nelsen) will be vendors and Anthony Turchetta has been toying with the idea of being a vendor but I have not heard from him as to whether or not he has decided to come.

There will be a penturning SIG(Special Interest Group) meeting on Friday night.

Looking forward to SWAT agian this year.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

according to the SWAT site, it looks like you're leading the SIG discussion - I guess I mistook that for giving a demo.

I'll see you there!

Everyone should be going to SWAT!!
A great learning experience, lots of vendor stuff to drool over (and buy), turnings by other turners to enjoy and wish you could copy, and a great chance to meet other turners of pens, bowls, and, other neat stuff. :bulgy-eyes:
Don may not be doing a demo :mad: but his Pen Makers SIG offers a lot of good info. There are many many other classes in the rotation and you WILL learn something.
The raffles have a lot of great prizes, including a Powermatic lathe and a Vicmarc lathe(I think).
It starts Aug 24 in Waco, TX and YOU should be there....I will!

I wanted to go this year however, my day job is taking a front seat this month with this "New" system changeover going live on Labor Day weekend. So unfortunately i dont get to hang out and have fun.

I was toying with the idea of going as a Vendor but family situations have changed so is a no go for me:mad:

My wife and I will be there. We live about 20 blocks from the Convention Center. Just last week they had a celebration there for the Freedom Fountain and introduction to the renovated Convention Center.

Shure am sad to hear that Seamus isn't going, I was going to bend his ear a little. Looks like a nice crowd will be there. See Ya.

I really want to, but SWMBO put the skids on it. Said I haven't been doing enough in the shop to justify it. Come'on woman, I just got the shop so I could work in it! Sheesh!

I will be attending again this year along with several members of our turning club the Bayou Woodturners. In my opinion, this is the best symposium in this region, great demos, great food, great vendors, excellent gallery.

Don, I am interested in your pen SIG, but looking at last years pictures, I didn't see one pen. Lots of beautiful stuff to put on a shelf, but you can't write with any of them! Is there much to see for narrow minded pen turners?

BUMP: Getting closer....anyone else going?
Don

The penturning sig will be a pannel discussion...questions and answers. There is just not time enough to do much more. I will be on the pannel along with Curtis "mesquite man" Seebeck land Ken Nelsen from Kallenshaanwoods. There may be another but I have not gotten a confirm commitment from him. It has proved to be very informative meeting the last two years.

There are no penturning rotations this year. I was rejected but I did apply with 3 proposed demonstrations. I looked over the rotation schedule but did not see any pen turning related rotations.

Vendors with pen related stuff: WoodWorldTX, Kallenshaanwoods (laser inlay kits), Craft Supplies USA, and several wood dealers who all ususlly have pen blanks.

The instant gallery had several pen displays but if you were looking at pictures on the SWAT website then you probably did not see any pen pictures.

I will be running the hands on penturning area and would love to have some help if just for Saturday.

I really think it will be worth your time even if you just drive down for Saturday.

Let me know if you (or anyone else) needs more information.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

I'm trying to find a way to make it either tomorrow or Saturday, just depends on family commitments. What's the best "one" day to attend?
