Hey friends I am looking at making plans to go to SWAT n Waco at the end of August. Any pen turners going, I see a lot of the seminars are for other types of turnings so I am wondering If it's worth driving 6 hours, since I'm just a lowly pen guy

I went last year for the first time and really enjoyed it. I'm a pen guy too, but with aspirations to do other turnings in the future. The demonstrations are top notch. Also, lots of vendors there some bring some spending money. Really enjoyed meeting Curtis and a lot of other great guys. They run a great convention and the included food is good too. I'm hoping to drive down again this year.

Wouldn't miss it. This will be my 7th one.
It is a highlight turning event for me. My wife is not a turner, but she attends many of the presentations. There are also programs especially for the Spouses.
I have been to the AAW National which is a great experience, but SWAT seems to give me more to work with each year. There are great pen presentations and there are many other turning techniques to be learned by attending general turning presentations.
As mentioned, bring plenty of cash. The Vendor display will have you drooling............ and the vendors are also a source of education.
The Instant Gallery will have you inspired, jealous, and in awe of what our fellow turners can produce.
The noon meals, which are included in the Symposium cost, are varied and excellently catered.
The raffles provide a chance at some really valued prizes, including two lathes.
Hope to see you all there.

I have been attending SWAT for several years and I think it is one of the best symposiums around and on the same level as the AAW. The clubs that host the symposium are great, the people are great, the demos are great and the food is outstanding. And they even have a section set up just for penturners plus a SIG meeting on penturning.

I will also be attending again this year from the Baton Rouge Louisiana area.

There are no pen turning rotations :-(...I applied but got the usual rejection letter. I do host a hands on pen turning area. I provide the blanks that are drilled and ready to turn. Kits are purchased from vendors. I will have 5 lathes set up with tools and all needed supplies.

Curtis Seebeck, aka mesquiteman, will be a vendor.

There is a Friday nite pen turning SIG (special interest group) and Curtis and I are working on what the meeting will be. It should be fun.

SWAT is a great show. We had 930 paid attendees last year. The AAW only had 1100 this year in Pheonix. We are slowly catching up with them.

Hope to see several IAP members there.

Do a good turn daily!
Don
