I want everyone to know that while it might look from time to time like I am at odds with the IAP management - I am not.

I support the IAP, I use the IAP logo in my store and I recommend membership at least a couple of times a week when I get questions from customers.

With regard to the new rules, in his very first post Jeff asked for comments and questions - he got them.

One of the new rules got named the "smitty" rule (not by me) and that rule will have some impact on my business but (blowing my own horn here a bit) I am a pretty darn smart guy and I will continue in business and I will find a way to continue offering service and products to IAP members at a good price. I never asked that the rule be modified because I don't think an organization of 10,000 members should change things to satisfy the needs one member. Even if I happen to be that member.

That notwithstanding - I do support the new rules. I think there should be and probably will be some adjustments as time goes on.

I do support the modest fees for classified ads and understand the idea behind other rules. Those I believe will change over time because I think there are probably better ways to accomplish the purpose that will surface once we start using the new commerce area. I also think it would be premature to start trying to "fix" what we have not even tried yet.

Spoken like a true gentleman!!!!! Kudos to you for such a positive attitude. Hopefully many others will follow in your footsteps and show their support to Jeff and the moderators. This is one of the finest forums with which I have ever been associated ......Jimmy

Someone said yesterday that I seem to be "on both sides of this issue"--agreeing and disagreeing. I believe that is to be expected---there are a lot of new "rules"--I agree with most and others would not be "my choice".

HOWEVER, like Smitty--I believe Jeff has shown he is flextible, should time prove there are areas that need to be IMproved!! Meanwhile, I agree completely---let's give this a chance!!

If we all start out with an open mind---who knows, we MAY grow to LIKE the results!!

I couldn't agree more! Well spoken by both!

I also think it is great what Jeff has done to listen to our concerns. It just disturbs me that it had to get personal! There is no reason to get personal....if you don't like it, don't come around any more. Problem solved! (Sorry....down off my soap box)

The winners in life will leverage the rules for the greatest gain and work within their boundaries. Don't think about what "can't" be done, focus on what "can" be done...

One this same line... One of my favorite quotes (its on my wall at work):

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things... and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." ---- Walt Disney

Most of us on here are looking at a way to make a buck. Wether it is to sell our goods to each other, or buy things here to sell, ect. The owners of the site decided to charge you to try and sell your wares here. It is what it is. There are 2 simple choices, accept what they are doing or leave.

In all honesty . . . I'm not here to "make a buck". But, maybe edicehouse is making an important point.

While I often hear people say that IAP is like a family, (and I used to be one of the people who often said that) maybe the great paradox of IAP is that we're not quite the family that we think we are. Where I come from, family members don't try to "make a buck" off of other family members.

I'm not certain how to sort all of this out. I guess it's the philosophical dilemma that has caused me to become less and less active in IAP.

Look forward and remember where you came from. If we only look backwards, we end up black and blue from walking into walls and closed doors. Look ahead and turn the knobs. The doors will open. How's that for being philosophical?

As a PS to my post above: Please note that I am a strong proponent of the new rules. I wholeheartedly endorse the efforts of Jeff, Curtis, and the assistant mods. I appreciate their hard work and effort.

Not unfamily-like

There is out to make a buck and "out to make a buck"

I rarely offer discounts to the general public in my store because my pricing is already competitive with most other sellers. Yet I don't think I have ever offered anything for sale on the IAP forum that was not discounted.

Having said that: I think there is a difference between "selling to" and out to make a buck off.

My father's 1st cousin once owned a General Store in the small town where my father lived- he was close to dad's age and they had grown up together from childhood. They were closer than my father and my uncle were (my uncle was 21 years older than dad).

My father took most of his business there, he did not get nor expect a discount every time he went to the store. When hard times struck, the cousin carried them by selling on credit and frequently putting a "surprise" in their food order. When they got their hands on money, he got paid first.

It was a large family and if the cousin had always discounted to his relatives he would have gone bankrupt. He just kept his prices as fair as he could and still make a living.
