Hello all!!
You know we talk about revamping and making this place better.I know there are some really nice people on here willing to help others but I have to tell you a story.I had the most pleasant and informative day I have had in a long time.I was wanting to try my hand at casting because I want to do a watch pen with parts from my mom and dads watches.I made a post on here asking for help.(PTownSubbie)AKA-Fred contacted me to remind me that he lives one city over.He ask if he could come over and give me some tips.so today he showed up with all his casting stuff and set up in my shop.he went from A-Z showing myself and my son everything he knows. You know he spent all afternoon at my home and would'nt accept a penny even using all of his materials and leaving me with a handfull of finished blanks. This is the true meaning of this site and people like this will keep this site alive. Please give a big HATS OFF to (PTownSubbie) FRED
I really don't have enough words to thank him so I hope the people here will help do just that. Thanks again FRED I really appreciated the great help and freindship!!!

With all the garbage we have been reading recently about who made who mad or who stole whos' idea from where or who asked for help but was told they should figure it out on their own, this is sure a very nice thing to read.

Thank you to both of you for reminding a lot of us who might not be part of the cool kids group why we come here....to learn more about a craft that we enjoy and try to do well. I was starting to wonder if this was a pen turning site or a personal etiquette site.

I know there have been a couple of others posting some nice things about why we are here, this one just seemed to hit home for me.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Hey Jim, I live on the north side, Hampton. Maybe you Fred and I get together one day and talk shop! Would like to get together and trade Ideas with other IAP members.

Well, that was a good start of the day, opening IAP forum and read this as my first post of the day...!!!

It really gives you a warm feeling inside reading and or finding out that someone is still capable of a simple gesture of friendliness and kindness, and the most amazing thing of it all is that most of us are capable of similar actions, even those "grumpy" fellows we have here and everywhere you go...! It only takes sometimes the right "occasion" to show it, is not that hard after all isn't it...???

Some of us live in places that are far from others that we talk to or socialize to in these type locations (forums) nearly daily, without ever have met, I know from myself that even with people here in Australia and some as close as 100 miles or less still prefer to buy my wood on the Internet than coming over, met and have a look at my "lolly-shop", a bit a shop-time and a yarn...! Those that do visit me, will find out how generous I can be even in a bed day..!

But this is not about me, nor I'm any different than so many of others here, giving the "opportunity"...! that is what I mean...!:biggrin:

Good'onya Fred...!

Cheers
George

Isn't IAP great. I find this sort of things happen all the time with people taking time and energy to help each other learn. Thanks for sharing your story and thank you to another member for exemplifying how good IAP can be in building community.

WOW, I didnt know there were that many of us local folks on here!!! Very cool. As many of us on here we do need to do a meet and greet somewhere! The more the better!!

Jim,

Thanks for the post and believe me....I enjoyed it just as much as you did!! Anytime you can get together and talk shop and learn is a good day in my book!!

For all those Hampton Roads people, I would love to get together. Name the time and place and I will be there. I don't know much but what I do know I will share freely!!

Thanks to everyone on IAP that has taught me along the way. Without this site, I would still be making "plain Jane" pens!!!

I am just trying to "pay it forward"!!

Take care folks!!

Hello (penhead) John we would love to have you join in the group. We will welcome everyone that wants to hang out and share our wisdom.Maybe we can learn from each other.
