So i got a new PSI catalog in the mail, and I see they have a new "super midi lathe" http://www.pennstateind.com/store/TCLC12WB.html. Variable speed, 12" swing, indexing head, and 1Hp motor. Sounds like a nice upgrade from the base line one, although at $460 I think it is a touch pricey for a Midi . I would have liked to see it with a 14" swing so it could take full use of their extension: http://www.pennstateind.com/store/CRJSET.html. But if it was 14" then I would probably want 16"... so you know.

Hard to get excited about mini wood lathe have not seen. Description sounds good, getting a 1 HP VS lathe w/12" swing over the bed, and w/bed extension 40 inches between centers for $460.

I like the specs on the lathe - 150 minimum speed and ONLY a 2 step pulley. Glad to see VS coming that is not tied into Pulleys for speed variation. One company that I will not mention claims continuously variable and the write up directly infers that the 'Variable Speed" is by the switch, but when you check it out it means by using a combination VS switch and 4 or 5 step pulley!

Couldn't agree more!
Would love to see an aftermarket, true variable speed motor that would work with the mini's without having to changing belts!
