We have a 74 yr. old guy at work. He's the nicest little old guy.

On Monday, he told me his car was at Wal-mart because he couldn't get it out of park. I went after work and found the brake light switch had a burnt wire. I jumped the wires and got it out of park for him to get it home.

I just got back from replacing the switch, connector and fuse. Got it all back together and it works fine now.

He couldn't stop thanking me or telling me how happy he is. His excitement and smile brightened my day.

it wasn't on a Ford was it?! A friend of mine has had the same issue with her ford mustang and I have probably fixed it 4 different times over the last 4 yrs. I hope this most recent time was the last, but every time it appears that the wires were burnt. I mean, damn, you can only do so much, I have put the plastic flex tubing over it, electrical tape, heat shrink, so I haven't really figured out why this problem keeps happening.

Yep, a Lincoln.
It appears that Ford has an issue with these from what I read.

It's easy enough to change but, once a year?
I don't know how long he has had the car but, it's been at least 3 years.
Hopefully, it will be fine. Time will tell, I guess.

There's a trick on the Ford's to still drive it when this happens. If you turn the key forward just one click, you can shift into neutral, and then start it up. Kind of a safety feature no one knows about. Although you will have no brake lights, but will save on a tow bill.

Good to know... I'll have to try it.

I just jumped the wires at the switch, put it in neutral and started it for him.

I like your way better...

I just tried it on my wife's Explorer...

didn't work.

Tried three times...nope.

Try it again. It works on all Fords. Just barely turn it forward and then see if it will go into neutral.
