Had U-verse installed yesterday and before it was installed AT&T unistalled my DSL short story is I've been without Internet service now for over 24 hours and had to use my I phone. AT&T has the worst customer service you can get. I was told that it would be on by 8 PM last night, at 9 PM I was told it might not be on until today @ 8AM . Now they said sometime between noon today and 4 PM. I told them to just cancel it if they can't have it repaired by 4 and reinstall my DSL , can't be done as I will have to put a new work order in and this would take 24 hours. My frustration level has reached the boiling point. The only good thing it has forced me to use my I phone.
Welcome to the smarter than me phone age.

Roy, relax take a deep breath or two. If it gets too bad just remember that it is 5pm somewhere. It really is not worth getting the blood pressure up over, especially with the grand-kids coming.

Change is a pain we all know it, but things get better. Oh and for future reference, never turn the old off until the new is up and running. DAMHIKT

The problem is that his DSL & U-Verse are both AT&T. And it's actually the same line to the house. So the disconnect is part of the install. Although it didn't make sense why it would take so long to reinstall if there was a problem.

I had a similar problem when I had U-Verse installed. Then for some reason 6 months later, everything quit. It took them a week to get it working again. The best part was that I got 3 free months service for both TV & internet.

But that was my last problem. It's worked fine for several years now.

Sorry to hear of your problem. We had a few hiccups when we first signed on with U-verse because we were the first ones in our area to become U-verse users. Once they got beyond thei initial setup service has been great. Much better internet than DSL.

We switched to AT&T U-verse Internet about 6 weeks ago. I ordered online, selecting the (no additional charge) self-install option, and I received my $100 AT&T modem/router/WiFi hardware in just a couple of days. I was told my service would be "installed" and could be activated about a week later. On the morning of the scheduled date, a technician phoned me and assured me that my U-verse Internet service already was "installed" and working, and that it could be activated/registered immediately. It didn't work. I finally went outside my house to the telephone interface box with my laptop and the U-verse modem, and I cut, stripped back, and directly wired in a known-good commercial telephone cord I had and plugged it into the modem, totally bypassing my house telephone wiring. It still didn't work. Two service calls later, I learned from the two different AT&T technicians that my service was "installed", but only as far as my neighborhood AT&T node. [As I understand it, U-verse Internet service typically is delivered via fiber optic cable to the neighborhood node (big silver box on a nearby major street), then distributed via a telephone copper wire pair to the residence. There's NO WAY my service could have been functional; not only did AT&T install a new "drop" from the pole to my house, a second technician had to come out to find and hook up a good copper wire pair in the distribution cable from the neighborhood node to the pole outside my house (we did not have an existing land line, thus no allocated copper wire pair). Well, the second technician left, and it still didn't work. I again called AT&T customer service, and after a brief automated test, an automated response said a technician would be dispatched again (3rd time) the next day to correct the problem. Early the next day the original technician stopped by, climbed to pole to close the door on the junction box left open overnight by the second technician, and then did whatever to finally get my U-verse Internet working. [She wasn't even dispatched, she was just being personally conscientious.]

Punchline: A few weeks later, I received my second bill. I was billed $130, plus taxes for two "repair calls". I waited until the next day to calm down before I called A&T, but I still feel bad for the customer service rep who took my call. The charges for the "repair calls" were removed.

Punchline 2: A few days after my bill, I related this story to a neighbor. Her response was essentially "that's nothing... have you noticed all the Comcast trucks at my house every few days?.....".

Good luck , Roy.

It's not going to get any better with any AT&T product. I completely dropped all AT&T products about two years ago and am now very happy not to have the problems and lies their employees are paid to put forth!

Well finally got a service man here, he shook his head and said" Looks like they did it again".
Seems that when they hooked it up they "paired" (what ever that means) to a total wrong address. He spent less than 1/2 hour and all is well..........I hope

About a year ago I called A** and asked about Uworse. They could not assure me that I would be able to retain my existing email setup that I have had for about 13 years with Earthlink so I told them to forget it.

Three days later somebody said that they had tried to phone me at home and was told that my phone number had been changed. We had been making phone calls from home but hadn't received any so we didn't realize the problem.

I called A** and got a three day run-around before I got my old number back.

This was just for inquiring about UWorse.

The best thing about ATT uverse is that when they screw up like that they tend to make good on it by giving you a free month. DAMHIKT

We live on the edge of town and had AT&T DSL. Lightning would take it out for a day at a time. When they put in Uverse, it's only out for 5 min. or so. It's working out a lot better for us. I don't mind the 60 day free trials either.
