So I was in my local cigar shop and I noticed what looks like pen blanks being used as spacers in a certain brand boxes. So I ask the guy working if they have any more. He tells me they throw them out. He goes to the back and brings out a box full of them.

Spanish cedar. Smells nice.

Pics to come.
Gave me 2 blanks to try.
Hoping this leads to a sale

Most cigar boxes (and spacers) are made from the wood of the Cedrela odorata, a relatively common south american and tropical evergreen. It is called spanish cedar, although it is neither, in fact. It smells very nice especially if impregnated with oils and resins from expensive cigars :-) If you're making pens from it, use plenty of thin ca when you get it down to size, as it's soft enough to dent with a fingernail otherwise.

here they are

Thanks for the advice
But now that I have pine under my belt I am ready for anything :- ()
