Straight Razor Kits

Does anybody know if kits for making straight razors are available? If so, where? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a couple of customers asking if I can make them but I haven't been able to find kits anywhere.

I haven't seen a straight razor kit, but that doesn't mean they don't
make them. (but I have to wonder how large the market would be)
You might look into getting one and taking it apart.

No there are only kits for safety razors. I have made a few straights before, but they're hard work. I might have some photos lying around, but the razors are our Florida house atm. The only advise I can give is to keep an open mind, buy a cheap premade straight razor, and go to town on the handle. Learn its workings inside and out, and then scroll a handle sand, and polish. It'll take a ton of practice, but it's worth its weight in gold when you finish. Also, invest in some really thin sheet metal for both templates and as a backplate for the wood.
 
Like it was stated before there are no kits for straights. However you can restore them. I would no go with the cheap gold dollar or zep razors. They are not made to be shaved with daily and are made with cheap steel. Hard to put a good edge on them. To be able to resell them with the time you put into them you have to know your razors. You can find them on ebay but you will also be competing with those that restore them. As for a market there is one but like pens you really have to know it. If you are interested in restoring straights let me know I will be glad to talk to you and tell you what kind to look for ect.
 
Yep. Best bet is to learn about straights, then restore a vintage one. Do a search for Dovo, Boker, and Thieers Issard razors.

Quality straights are not cheap, nor are quality restores.

Did a restore myself on a straight that was supposedly made around the 1830's.
 
Just started on a wade and butcher meat cleaver 7/8 early 1800s they are hard to nail down the exact year. 1840 is when they changed the stamping.

I recently inherited a couple of SE razors and am looking to restore them if they are worth it. Any links to sites that might help the process along is appreciated as well.
