Straight cuts

I am having a terrible time making straight cuts for inlays. I have tried a jig for my band saw but the blade is what keeps moving. Is my best bet a miter saw? Is there such a thing as a "mini miter saw"?

Would a scroll saw be an option? Maybe one of those tiny, small-tooth back saws?

If you aren't going to be making a large volume, how about just a plain old hand-operated miter saw? Very accurate and should be able to be purchased reasonable as most (all?) are now powered.

An other option for your band saw is to use a wider blade.

miter saw or table saw. You want a rigid blade. Check out the Freud Diablo 80 tooth miter saw blade. Ultra thin kerf, leaves a glass finish.

What are you trying to make? An inlay doesn't go all the way thru, thus a miter saw
isn't a great choice. For inlays, I think of a router bit with the requisite fences, a table saw, or hand tools.

You are right, I meant segmenting. Ooops! I am trying to do some segmenting.

Whichever type of saw you use, (miter, band, table) it's most important to zero your saw with your jig. It takes a lot of tweaking to get it right, and it needs to be checked often.
