Hi everyone,

This is a piece of a couple of Stone Pines trees that I cut on a block of land behind my house, when the land was in preparation for houses development, two and a half years ago.

Since the wood has been in my storage paddock and under the weather, reason why is starting to get bluing...!

I grabbed this piece today, as I had a request to cut 2 pine discs about 1" 1/2 thick from the exact diameter this log offered so, after I cut them I stating to look at what was left and all of a certain I felt an urge to do something with it on my lathe.

I sorta have an idea on what to make from it but I decided to take a few pics before I mount if on the lathe, and see if any of you have any suggestions on what to do using most of its external features (arms)...!

I'm open to suggestions before I get it mounted and start turning, after that, ain't no promises, I will go with the flow...!

So what do you're reckon...???:)

Cheers
George

Be neat if you could turn bowls form each extension aand make them blend together.

Hi Glen,

Neat idea but I had a much simple design and execution in mind...!

I mounted it in the lathe this evening and gave if a rough turn before dinner, then I returned to do a little more work on it, in and out.

The timber is wet in areas (being in the rain) so, now that the shape and hollowing is done, the water will come out in no time.

The only thing that I need to do to it is to sand it down, coat it with sanding sealer and a solid coat of the Floorseal I use, and it would be another large fruit bowl for the house (were am I going to get all the fruit I need to fill the fruit bowls the wife already has in the house...???)

This Stone Pine has very pretty knots and this piece is full of them so, it will look good when finished, for sure...!

Cheers
George

Now that there is what I call ACTRS wood.

Lin.

Now, would you please "translate" your version of ACTRS wood...???

I hope your version is better than mine...!:biggrin:

A Catastrophic Treasure Ruined Shameless wood.

PS: This is the same tree wood I used last year to do another salad bowl that has been very handy, in the kitchen table...!

Cheers

Interesting stuff, George! I like chunky bowls for practical purposes... Looking forward to seeing this one with some finish on it.
