Skip said he wouldn't put it on a Sierra. So I took his advice and put
it on a Jr Statesman. Should have dug around for a fountain pen.:redface:

344 minutes laser time :eek: but at least the ceramic marker sticks now.
CA finish over 6063 aluminum with Cermark LMM6000 spray. MM to 12000

Still a work in progress, but it's getting there..

I must say that I was/ am surprised that you and even Constant and others make these really cool blanks primarily for Sierras. I've never been a big fan of them ( Sierras)
I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see them available for the Jr series, even if it's only the bottom blank. I think that all of them are classy and busy enough to just do the bottom with one of these and the cap with either plain black or whatever colour is used in the body.
The sierra needs the curved shape ( which you provide it in) but most other kits are fine with B2B. If the turner want's a bit of shape, then a few extra coats of CA does the trick.

But that one really does look great!!!:biggrin:
 
Charlie , that is awesome . I agree with the others about the fountain pen nib . This one is looks very similar to some very vintage FP's that are selling for lots of money
(in the thousands) . Very , very impressive .

.. but people don't seem to buy the other ones.. :eek: so we concentrate
on what people are buying. (I make mine on the majestic squires, sort
of like a sierra but much better platings and mechanisms .. plus one
obnoxious pimp stone..)

Someone is making me some aluminum blanks for Jr's that are undersized
and will need to be built up with CA or resin. I've got other patterns I want
to try out.

I think the wood ones are available in Jr's .. I'd have to look at what is
left on Exotics. But I know we pretty much stopped making Jr's because
nobody seemed to want them. We were doing Jr's, cigars, Sierras and I
think Barons.. but the Sierra was the one that sold. For a little while,
anyway.. But if people want juniors, I can make juniors.

The aluminum blanks though.. if I weren't so stubborn I wouldn't have
done this one. Most things I run at 50% power, 50% speed. 3D I tend to
run from 50% power up to 100% power, depending on depth. Less speed
will also give you more heat, so I tried these at 30% speed, 10%, 5%
and finally 1%, when the machine took over and decided I had made a
mistake and bumped me back up to 3%. I ran these at 0.1% and had to
make two passes. And since you can't leave the laser unattended or even
go to the bathroom for a minute, these are tedious to make. I couldn't
even imagine how to charge for the time, and no matter what the charge
ended up being, neither the buyer or the laser tech would feel it was a
good deal.

So .. I just have to buy a much MUCH bigger laser! :biggrin:

The longer it takes, the less likely it will be copied. Your really have an original piece of art. Waiting for kitless version. I'm impressed.

Uh, Phil? You accidentally put an 'R' in the word shaaap.

Haven't tried it on anodized yet, although the laser works fine with it.
Lasering the anodized aluminum turns it white. I attempted to do some
blanks at home, but all I accomplished was some dirty looking blanks with
some dye tinges and some lovely white spots on the countertop where
the sulfuric acid re-condensed and dripped as it cooled off. :eek:
 
Charlie that's stunningly beautiful, but as for your explanation of the procedure, i didn't get any of it, but again I am new. But if in case you'd like a secure place for your pen I'll be glad to hold it for you.

Thanks for the kind words, folks.. it's not ready for Prime Time, but it's
getting there. Kitless next? Naah .. metal lathe next.
 
Nice pen Charlie,

As some of you know I also do many other things than just pens and sometimes laser time can be very long. about two years ago I did a single item 8' x 11' that was broken into smaller pieces that took me 97 hours to do.

Charlie shoot me an pm and I shall give you some methods that will able you to do these designs production style on metal, I would say 5 min maximum per item.

Sensations vary for me from sublime upwards. Rewarding pen for mine, I have witnessed you climbing that mountain for a while now the nib or the point is moot the pen wins.
