I bought a nice board of Padouk the other day and milled a few blanks. One corner had a small amount of sapwood, and I carved out two blanks that I thought had enough sapwood to show on a finished pen. I turned one of them today (7mm Euro). As it turned, I was happily surprised to find not only that the sapwood will show on both barrels, but it also has a small amount of spalt. Really cool effect--orange wood, white sapwood, and small black lines. The Padouk is soft and smells great when you turn it. It's cold here (well, for Houston anyway), so I'm going to wait until it warms up to finish it with CA. I'll post pics when it's done. I haven't worked with Padouk before -- it's really nice. The grain is a little more open than I'd like, but I'm sure CA will take care of that.
