Hi friends. I just joined, new to pen turning. I was instructed to say HI and I'm good at following instructions. :)

I recently bought a HF lathe and a 30 pack of funlines from Penn State Industries. I'm so on the very front end of this. But having a ball trying. I'm still learning how to sharpen my chisels! But even as a novice I'm finding some success. I just made a second order from PSI for some Gatsby's and Concava's. I definitely don't want to run out of supplies. I'm glad that there is a place where I can get ideas for new things to try. Yes, I'm here to straight up steal your techniques to impress my wife with how "creative" I am. ;)

If anyone's interested, I'm making mostly wood ink pens, but I've poured some Alumilite and turned those too. Currently I'm making an attempt to integrate the two mediums, using the poly-resin as ribbon inlay. Feel free to comment on that if you want to. Did I mention that I'm good at following instructions. 😁

My first 6 pens. I have at least 10 more, undocumented. I'll have to get some shots. :)

Well this is fun. My wife is getting tired of pretending to be interested in my creations. 😛
If you look really really closely, you might notice that the green one is not a pen. I put some Irish moss in some resin and turned a crochet hook for the Mrs.

Well I just read that I should paint the holes on the resin pens. I thought of this already and have one glued up where I painted the tube black to prevent the brass from showing. But on the next one after that, I'll be painting the hole instead. That'll give me 3 units to compare (unpainted, painted tube, and painted hole). Perhaps I'll share that when I'm done.

Nice looking work. Welcome from Webster, NY (now). However, my home town until left for the military in 1966 was Bellwood! There is a ton of great wood in the beautiful mountains around you. Is it really illegal to cut down a dogwood tree in PA (last that I heard as a kid many, many years ago). If not the wood should make some beautiful pens. In any case, I'm envious of what else you will be able to harvest.

If I were you I'd hold on before posting your favorite creation, or at least save one for entering the Bash Slimline Contest! Check out the prize list for the top 3 most popular pens ;) Entries will be accepted until this Friday at midnight ;) Just saying.
